The Ministry of Health has dismissed reports suggesting that the Weija Pediatric Hospital Project has been cancelled or suspended.

In a statement released on December 13, 2025, and signed by its spokesperson, Tony Goodman, the Ministry clarified that no termination order or suspension has been issued to the contractor, adding that works at the facility are still ongoing.

According to the Ministry, it has not released any publication announcing challenges with the project, contrary to claims circulating in sections of the media.

The statement explained that the contractor, Awerco Construction Limited, continues to work on the project without interference from the Ministry.

The Ministry further added that the contract also covers “the supply and installation of medical equipment.”

Explaining the role of the World Bank, the Ministry indicated that the Bank “is not a party to either the Works or Equipment contract with the Contractor, except for the funding of the project.”

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the project is completed as planned, despite recent public concerns about delays and alleged funding issues.

The Weija Pediatric Hospital is a World Bank–funded project, designed as a 120-bed specialist facility to improve child healthcare delivery in the Greater Accra Region.

Meanwhile, the contractor has also stated that it is unaware of any financial challenges between the Ministry and the World Bank, insisting that its contractual relationship is solely with the Ministry of Health.
