Wa Polytechnic inaugurates HIV/AIDS club

Wa, Nov. 12, GNA - The Wa Polytechnic on Thursday inaugurated HIV/AIDS club which will spearhead the dissemination of information on the disease among staff and students.

A six-member-executive of the club was also sworn into office. Mr Solomon Dansieh, Acting Rector of the Polytechnic said the school attaches much seriousness to the disease and was currently sourcing funds to implement its HIV/AIDS policy designed for students. This, he said, was informed by the fact that the Polytechnic has no hostel facility which makes students living at various residential locations in Wa township more vulnerable to the disease. The Acting Rector urged the executives of the club to work hard to ensure the growth of the club and promised them that management would always support their activities.

Alhaji Zaid Tamimu, Upper West Regional Focal Person of HIV/AIDS appealed to the students to go for voluntary testing to know their status. He said in developed countries like the United States of America where there was less stigmatization and discrimination, people infected with HIV could live with it for 20 years through the use of retroviral drugs. 12 Nov. 09
