Upper West Regional Hospital is 75% complete

Mr Abou Shamaa, Site Engineer at the Upper West Regional Hospital project, said the venture is 75 percent complete and likely to be finished in October, if there is no hitch.

The 61 million- dollar Euroget financed project would cater for constructional works, the provision of medical equipment, and furniture.

The 160- bed capacity project was scheduled to have been completed in 2014, but owning to some challenges, constructional works delayed, Mr Shamaa told journalists during a site tour to see the progress of work.

The project is on a 131,000 square metre land, and was acquired in 2008.

The sod cutting to commence works began in 2010.

The facility has an administrative block, pharmacy unit, out-patient department, inpatient unit, physiotherapy apartment, and laboratory section.

Other apartments are blood bank unit, surgical section, burns division, emergency care unit, sick babies’ apartment, delivery section and maternity unit.

The service area also has maintenance unit, stores, power station, medical waste unit, laundry and kitchen component, mortuary, water plant, sewerage plant and a mini market section among others.

Mr Shamaa said: “We are delivering quality work and working according to our plan and timeframe to achieve results.”

He said equipment are available and work on all the project units are progressing.

Mr Baba Anaba, Administrative Manager of Euroget said the project has been over politicised and urged Ghana to consider the project as their baby.

The Regional Hospital is the flagship project of the government.
