The Union of Ghanaian Associations in Germany (UGAG) donated a number of items to the Eye Department of the Mary Lucy Hospital at Awoshie in Accra on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
The presentation was made by Cecilia Biritwum, Vice President of UGAG, who was accompanied by Patrick R. Okine, representative of UGAG in Ghana.
Speaking at the presentation, Biritwum said the donation was part of the Union's periodic presentations to various institutions in Ghana over the last five years.
The gesture, she said, "is to support the hospital's provision of eye care and treatments for affected patients."
She added that the items were to alleviate the plight of those within the community and beyond who could not afford frames and lenses.
Receiving the donation of over 500 items, including glasses, frames, and lenses, Dr Keren Gyasi, Optometrist at the Eye Clinic, thanked UGAG on behalf of Mary Lucy Hospital, and assured Mrs Biritwum that the items would be used to serve the less privileged and affected patients.
Dr Vadis Burg Mensah, Optometrist in charge, also reiterated the gratitude of the hospital and indicated that the donation was timely for the intended purpose.
