Treat patients with respect - Health workers told

Juaso (Ash), Nov 30, GNA - Dr Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Asante-Akim South District Director of Health Services, has admonished health workers in the district to treat patients with respect and dignity in the discharge of their professional duties.

He said being courteous to patients was crucial to the provision of quality health care and also a professional ethic that must not be undermined.

Dr Asiedu-Bekoe made these observations when addressing a meeting with Medical Assistants and nurses manning various health facilities in the district to take stock of their performance at Juaso on Wednesday. The District Director expressed concern about growing misconduct among some health personnel in the district towards patients which he said had led to most people seeking medical attention from quack doctors as well as traditional birth attendants.

He disclosed that the District Health Directorate would soon institute punitive measures to halt the practice, adding that culprits would be drastically dealt with.

He called for behavioural change to improve on relations between health personnel and patients.
