Teenage pregnancy on the rise in Gomoa

Nana Okru Baah, Chief of Achiase in the Gomoa East District has expressed concern about teenage pregnancy in the area and said steps had to be taken to stop it.

He said the situation had affected girl child education at Achiase and other towns in both Gomoa East and Gomoa West districts.

Nana Okru Baah said this when he addressed the chiefs and people of Achiase to climax their Annual Akwambo festival on Saturday.

He said the two districts recorded significant number of pregnancy cases in the 2014 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), a situation he described as not the best.

The Chief appealed to parents in the Gomoa East and Gomoa West districts not to shirk their obligations about the education of their children, adding that education is the only panacea to poverty alleviation.

Nana Okru Baah said governments all over the world were mandated to pay particular attention to the education sector to improve quality life of the people.

He said the chiefs, opinion leaders, elders and Assembly members had taken steps to enforce bye-laws preventing school children from going out after 2000 hours.

Nana Okru Baah said the chiefs and elders had procured land for the proposed Community Senior High School (SHS) at Achiase as part of their contributions to support education.

On the outbreak of cholera and Ebola diseases, he urged citizens of the town to keep personal hygiene and avoid body contact.
