TB on the increase in Sekondi-Takoradi

Sekondi, April 2, GNA- Mr Richard Kwofie, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Tuberculosis Coordinator, on Wednesday said about 182 cases of tuberculosis were recorded in the Metropolis in 2007 as against 173 cases in 2006. The Metropolitan Tuberculosis who said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sekondi on Tuesday, said about 59 cases has been recorded in the metropolis in the first quarter of this year. He said Kwesimintsim and its environs had high infection rate of the disease and that many people infected with the disease failed to seek medical care although treatment was free. Mr Kwofie said the Ghana Health Service with the support of the Global Fund has embarked on educational campaign to encourage people infected with the disease to seek voluntary treatment.
