Swedru Catholic Church Youth organize health walk

Agona Swedru, May 4, GNA- The Priests and youth of Swedru Saint Anthony Catholic Church, Swedru at the weekend organized a health walk to create awareness of the dangers of hepatitis (B) disease that was becoming a health hazard in the country. Hepatitis (B) is a blood related disease, which can be also contracted through man and woman relationship.

The six hours walk, sponsored by Vodafone took them through the principal streets of Agona Swedru Municipality. Speaking to the GNA, after the exercise, Rev. Father Francis Prempeh, youth Chaplain of the church said the walk which started five years ago was held every May 1, to create awareness on malaria, HIV/AIDS, and others. He said this year, the youth in the church decided to create awareness on Hepatitis (B) disease, which according to him, was surfacing in the municipality, health reports.

Rev Father Prempeh said the health walk would be extended to all 12 branches of Agona Swedru Diocese to inform the members and non members in the area. He stated that the church has contacted the Municipal Directorate of Health Service to organize programmes to educate them about the dangers of the disease. Mr. Bright Amissah-Nyarkoh, Youth President of the Church urged the youth to desist from pre-marital sex and immoral acts to avoid contracting the dreadful disease that still has no cure. He noted that the youth branch of the church has outlined health programmes to educate the youth of the church.
