Surge in kidney disease in Ghana

Kidney disease is said to be on the increase in the country with the Renal Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital recording 3,281 cases last year.

This has led to the introduction of a campaign dubbed: "Save a Cedi to save a Kidney".

The President of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe, said the initiative is to acquire a dialysis machine to set up a Renal Centre at the 37 Military Hospital.

This will enable patients suffering from kidney-related illnesses to access quality health care and also reduce the pressure on the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
