Saltpond Hospital Gets An Aumbulance

Amicus Onlus yesterday donated an ambulance to the Saltpond Government Hospital.

This timely intervention effectively ends the needless pain and avoidable deaths of critical care and emergency patients of Saltpond and its neighbouring communities after the only ambulance the hospital had was involved in an accident two years ago.

According to Akumba Ben Asomoaning, Country Director of Amicus Onlus, the golden -hour principle in providing treatments for accident victims focuses on the necessity of providing care at the earliest, and this increases the chances of survival.

This initiative, the Country Director stressed forms part of the wider corporate objective of providing actionable solutions to the structural constrains of the country’s health, education and socio-economic sectors.

At the presentation ceremony, the Municipal Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Godfred Kwabena Sarpong acknowledged that the ambulance will be invaluable in transporting critically ill and injured patients from either their homes or accident sites to the hospital for timely care and treatment.

Akumba Ben Asomoaning added that Amicus Onlus in collaboration with the University of Perugia will soon establish the Baobab University College (BUC) to train transformational thinkers and agents in all sectors of the economy. To the delight of the hospital staff, he stated that the BUC will offer masters degree programmes in Nursing, Epidemiology and Entrepreneurship.

Amicus Onlus is an Italian NGO aimed at complementing efforts in the areas of education and health. The initiatives of the organisation so far include the Baobab Academy in Accra - a youth entrepreneurship and business development centre and the Baobab Medical Centre in the Central Region, a collaborative effort between Amicus Onlus and the Ghana Health Service. Currently, Amicus Onlus is assiduously working towards the establishment of the Baobab University College.
