Rotaractors urge pupils to brush twice a day

The Rotaract Clubs of Accra-Labone and Accra-East have charged parents and teachers at Akpafu community in Sefwi-Wiaso District in the Western-North Region to ensure that children brush their teeth twice a day.

The two Rotaract clubs made the call during a joint presentation of toothpaste and toothbrush to pupils of Sefwi Akpafu M/A Primary School as part of the World Oral Health Day. The Rotaractors also donated footballs to the school; donated clothes to the community members and distributed mosquito nets to nursing mothers last Friday.

Prior to distributing the toothpaste and toothbrush to the pupils, Delali Akorfa Matanawui, a Rotaractor took the pupils through a demonstration of how to brush the teeth well and avoid hurting the gum.

In a brief remark, the President of the Rotaract Club of Accra-Labone, Albert Amekudzi urged parents to ensure they have keen interest in the well-being of their children and stay healthy.

Mr. Amekudzi further called on the teachers to dedicate more time to the pupils and “teach them healthy oral hygiene habits so they can become conscious of their health as adults.”

President of the Rotaract Club of Accra-East, Peter Ahiakpor on his part urged the mothers to ensure that they use the mosquito nets and keep their environment clean in order to prevent them from malaria infection.

Mr. Ahiakpor also encouraged them to visit the clinic regularly to avoid complications during pregnancy periods.

The 2019 World Oral Health Day is an international day to celebrate the benefits of a healthy teeth and to promote worldwide awareness of the issues around oral hygiene. The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Act on Mouth Health”.

The Rotaract Club of Accra-East is currently building a three-unit classroom block at Akpafu to move the kindergarten pupils from their current ramshackle shed to a befitting classroom for effective teaching and learning.

The Rotaractors visited the project site, which is currently at the roofing stage to inspect progress of work and urged the community elders to actively participate in the regular communal labour on the project.

President of Rotaract Club of Accra-East further appealed to Corporate Ghana to support such wealthy course in the various communities.
