Over 300 people screened by Vodafone Foundation

Over 300 residents of Sogakope in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region have received free medical screening and treatments of varied ailments.

It was organised and funded by Vodafone Ghana Foundation, a charity arm of the telecommunication company, under its social responsibility initiative dubbed: “Healthfest” to help keep the people healthy.

Among the ailments treated were high blood pressure, diabetes, and malaria, which topped the list.

Nana Yaa Ofori-Koree, Foundation Director, said since its inception in 2013, the Healthfest initiative had benefited over 10,000 people across the country.

Similar programmes, she said, would be held for Ashaiman, Tema New Town, Alajo, Glefe, Dansoman, Essikado and Bentom by the close of the year.

Mrs Ofori-Koree said the programme also catered for some urgent surgical operations for a number of people of which some 20 Volta Regional residents benefited, adding that an operation for cleft patients would be done on November 19 to 30 this year, in Ho.

She said the Foundation also runs a “Healthline 255” initiative, a medical centre in which people talk with doctors daily through free 255 Vodafone call line and 0505050500 on other networks, noting that eye problems topped the complaints list.

Vodafone Ghana, through its Foundation, would continue to play its social role in uplifting the people’s welfare, Mrs Ofori-Koree said.
