Nyamendam gets Community Health Planning Services

Agona Nyame Ndam (C/R), March 29, GNA - The Agona District Health Management Team (DHMT) of the Ghana Health Service is to establish 33 Community Health Planning Service (CHPS) to provide quality health care in the rural areas.

Out of the number three had been established and inaugurated at Agona Otsenkorang, Agona Abugyakwaa and Nyame Ndam, near Agona Swedru. Dr Sekyi-Appiah, District Director of Health Services, made this known at the commissioning of a Health Centre at Nyame Ndam in the Agona District of the Central Region.

He said the government attached great importance and give priority to the health of Ghanaians hence the establishment of CHPS centres in remote parts of the district.

Dr Sekyi-Appiah noted that the health of the people would not be toyed with either by the government or health providers, saying, "The nation whose citizens lack quality health care suffers". He stressed that the government had put in place effective measures to promote quality health-care delivery to the people who were predominantly farmers.

The Health Director pointed out that the recruitment of 68 health extension workers to augment the operation of nurses at the hospital was a good initiative by the government to improve and sustain good health care.

He said CHPS was introduced to take-over the care of Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy, Malaria and others diseases, which retarded socio-economic development.

Dr Sekyi-Appiah said the Community Health Officer (CHO) in-charge of the Centre said cases beyond their capability were referred to the Swedru Government hospital.

Mr Ben Mensah, Agona District Chief Executive (DCE), said Ghanaians should reflect on all aspects of lives including health, education, good roads, potable water and poverty reduction the country celebrate its 50th independence anniversary.

He said the establishment of the centres in remotes parts of the district would help reduce pressure on health facilities at the Swedru Government hospital.

The DCE urged the people to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme and to register to enable them have access to affordable quality health care Mr Samuel Sam, Assemblyman for the Wawase Electoral Area, appealed to the people at Nayme Ndam to patronize the centre to ensure its sustainability.

He called on the volunteers to cooperate with the Health Officer in-charge of the Centre to promote good health care. Mr Adofo Dwamena, Agona West Constituency Chairman of the NPP, appealed to the District Assembly to speed up work on the construction of a permanent structure for the CHPS to enable the officer in-charge to render quality services to the people. 29 Mar 07
