Nkoranza mutual health insurance scheme commended

Nkoranza (B/A), April 24, GNA - Mr. Ras Boateng, Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, has commended the chiefs and people of Nkoranza for their pioneering role in the institution of the scheme in the country.

He was addressing the chiefs, people and management of the Nkoranza Mutual Health Insurance Scheme at Nkoranza after he had presented a pick-up vehicle, a motorbike, four computers and a bicycle to the management of the district scheme.

Mr. Boateng told the chiefs that Ghanaians owed them a gratitude for being the pace-setters in the provision of quality health care delivery in the country.

He lauded the encouraging performance of all districts in Brong Ahafo for the patronage of the scheme, as compared to other communities in the country.

The executive secretary announced plans by the national scheme to provide an office accommodation for the Nkoranza mutual scheme as a monument for the people's foresight.

Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, District Chief Executive, expressed his gratitude to the government for taking the bold step in launching the scheme and for the provision of the vehicle, which he said would greatly facilitate the activities of the district scheme. He commended the efforts of the management and field staff of the scheme that enabled it to record a net surplus of about 1.5 billion cedis in their operations last year.

Mr. Kwame Amporfo-Twumasi, MP for Nkoranza South and Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports thanked the National Health Insurance Council for the presentation.

He advised the people to register to become part of the scheme and enjoy health security.

Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom 1V, the Omanhene, acknowledged the hard work and efforts of Dr Inneke Bossman, a Dutch doctor at Saint Theresa's hospital at Nkoranza, who spearheaded the launch of the Nkoranza community health insurance scheme in 1992 that gave birth to the national health insurance scheme.

Meanwhile the management of the Nkoranza mutual health insurance scheme has honoured Nana Takyi Baffo, chief of Tom, for encouraging his people to patronise the scheme to record 100 per cent registration coverage in the district.
