Newmont donates incubators to Abirim Government Hospital

The Newmont Golden Ridge Limited, Akyem Mines, has donated two incubators and refurbished a room in the Abrim Government hospital to house the incubators.

The GhC 67,859.00 project was to improve neonatal healthcare delivery and curb infant mortality associated with premature births in the Birim North District.

At a ceremony to present the incubator to the hospital, Mr Felix Apoh, the Senior Manager, Sustainability and External Relations of the Akyem Mine said Newmont is committed to work with stakeholders to improve the living standard of the people through sustainable and responsible mining.

He said the company has initiated a lot of interventions in health and education to improve upon the standards of living of inhabitants in their operational areas.

Mr Apoh said Newmont had enrolled over 200 orphaned and needy children in the district on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Mr Apoh therefore assured of Newmont’s commitment to support the provision of the best of services to communities affected by their operations to ensure development.

Obrempong Kwesi Amoh Kyeretwie, the Chief of Abirim and the Acting Akyem Kotoku Gyaasehene thanked Newmont for helping to transform the then clinic into a hospital.
He expressed worry over congestion in the wards where children share wards with adults and pleaded with Newmont to help to provide a children ward for the facility to ease the congestion.
