NHIA take steps to improve quality of client service

The Asante-Akim South District Office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has taken steps to improve the quality and public accessibility of its services, with the opening of three additional biometric registration centres.

These new centres are at Asuboa, Dampong and Ofoase.

Mr. William Mensah, the District Scheme Manager, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, this had brought their services closer to the people.

It had been a huge relief to many - removed the discomfort and inconvenience of having to sleep at the premises of the Juaso office, sometimes for days, to register and renew their old health insurance cards.

He said there was an added advantage by way of cut-down in cost to the client. They no longer have to travel long distances to access services of the NHIS.

Mr. Mensah said given the strategic location and population distribution of the newly created centres, the scheme had extended its reach.

He spoke of the possibility of the increasing the number of centres but said that would be determined by the availability of internet connectivity.

The Scheme Manager said frequent breakdown of equipment and lack of vehicle to ferry workers to those places remained the major challenges, which they had to contend with.
