The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed an additional GH¢267.67 million to health facilities across the country to settle claims under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

According to a statement signed by the NHIA Chief Executive, Dr Victor Asare-Bampoe, the payment forms part of efforts to ensure the continued sustainability of the NHIS and to provide financial support to healthcare providers.

"The Government of Ghana, through the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), is pleased to announce the payment of an additional GH¢267.67 million to cover claims for health facilities nationwide. The amount, sanctioned by the Chief Executive, Dr Victor Asare-Bampoe, covers remaining claims submitted and vetted for up to April 2025," it noted.

According to the NHIA, the latest payment brings the total amount released by the Authority over the past seven months to over GH¢1.5 billion.

It further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting healthcare providers and ensuring access to medical care.

"The NHIA’s prompt payments regime, introduced earlier this year and in line with the government’s commitment to ensuring that healthcare providers are resourced, has been instrumental in maintaining a debt-free status for 2025, guaranteeing timely reimbursement to healthcare providers nationwide. Payments are in fulfilment of the NHIA’s mandate as a payer of healthcare services for disease conditions prescribed in the NHIS Benefit Package," it added.
