Ministry presents sanitation kits to MMDAs

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) has presented 10,000 litre bins, rakes, wheel-barrows amongst other logistics to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Northern Region to help in the Saturday’s National Sanitation Exercise.

The Northern Region chapter of the Ghana Journalists’ Association also received 100 litre bins to be distributed to media houses in the region whiles the four traditional kingdoms in the region including Dagbon, Yagbon, and Mamprugu also received the items.

Mr Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, a Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, who presented the items to the MMDAs in Tamale on Tuesday, said they were to augment the facilities of the MMDAs to ensure sustenance and success of the National Sanitation Exercise.

Mr Vanderpuye expressed gratitude to all organizations, which donated the items to the MLGRD to ensure the success of the National Sanitation Exercise.

The government, about three months ago, launched the National Sanitation Exercise and set aside every first Saturday of every month as National Sanitation Day for the citizenry to clean their surroundings to rid the country of filth.

This month’s National Sanitation Exercise is to be hosted by the Northern Region on Saturday.

Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Northern Regional Minister thanked MLGRD for the presentation saying it would help to ensure the sustainability of the exercise in the region.

Later, Mr Vanderpuye, accompanied by Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, District Chief Executive for Tolon and Members of Parliament for Kumbungu and Tamale North Constituencies paid a courtesy call on the Regent of Tolon to inform as well as seek his support for the impending National Sanitation Exercise on Saturday and the district assembly elections scheduled for next month.

The delegation also called on the elders and representatives of the Chief of Kumbungu to inform them about the exercise as well as the district assembly elections.

It also inspected completed and on-going development projects in the Tolon and Kumbungu Districts, which included educational and health infrastructure.
