Ministry of Health donates infusions to hospitals

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday donated a quantity of medical supplies to selected hospitals in the Accra metropolis to enable those health institutions to treat patients of the recent outbreak of cholera effectively.

The supplies, which are intended to reduce the financial burden on patients affected by the disease, included Ringer-Lactate and Anti-Cholera infusions.

The La General Hospital, the Lekma Hospital, the Ridge Out Patient Department at the Adabraka Hospital, the Maamobi General Hospital and the Achimota Hospital were each presented with 1,000 pieces of Ringer-Lactate and 1,000 pieces of Anti-Cholera infusions depending on the number of cases they have had since the outbreak of the disease.

Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, Deputy Minister of Health said the donation is a direct response to the promise made by President John Mahama when he visited some health centers a few weeks ago to acquaint himself with the current situation of the outbreak.

He said as part of the long term cholera eradication plan in the country, the Ministry will intensify public education and the speedy treatment of cases to achieve the target.

Dr Adiza Abu, Principal Nursing Officer at the La General Hospital thanked the President for the gesture, adding that, the supplies would help them in managing the issue.

Dr Ebenezer Oduro-Mensah, Head of Department, Ridge OPD, Adabraka, however urged government to provide hospitals with more gloves and consumables since that is the essential tool to aid the treatment of cholera patients.

Mrs Linda Van-Otoo, Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service said though a lot has been done to curtail the situation since the outbreak,, the number of cases keeps increasing, advising the public to be mindful of street food and water.
