Media urged to promote healthy lifestyles

Kumasi, Jan. 11, GNA - An Anaesthetist, at the Juaben Government Hospital Dr Henry Brenya-Sarpong, has invited the media to join in the campaign to promote healthy lifestyles among the people. They should find space to educate the people on the need to avoid unhealthy eating habits and social lifestyles that fuel hypertension and other diseases.

Dr Brenya-Sarpong said this when speaking at a health forum organized by the Juaben Development Association at Asante-Juaben. He said out-patients department (OPD) attendance at the various facilities could go down significantly and the life span increased, if the people paid particular attention to their health. He said it was time more importance was attached to preventive health care to reduce diseases.

The nation, he said, could simply not afford to lose its productive workforce through preventable diseases. Dr Brenya-Sarpong recommended that people take in more water to rid their bodies of toxins, eat more fruits and vegetables and to also exercise their bodies regularly.

They should stay away from fatty foods, to check clotting of the arteries and allow for free flow of blood to all parts of the body. Nana Akrasi Sarpong, an Executive Member of the Association, appealed to the government to ensure the allocation of more funds to the health sector.
