Mampong Hospital appeals to community leaders for support

Mampong (Ash), Aug 4, GNA - Dr Emmanuel Ahiable, the Medical Superintendent of the Asante-Mampong District Hospital, has appealed to the political and traditional authorities of the area to support the management of the hospital to make it a 'centre of excellence' in the delivery of health care.

"As the biggest district hospital, second to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), in the Ashanti Region, it is our vision to make this hospital a centre of excellence in the provision of high quality health care", he said.

Dr Ahiable said despite the efforts health authorities and

management of the hospital were putting in, it has become obvious

that they alone cannot achieve much without the genuine support

and cooperation of community leaders. He was speaking at a ceremony during which a German family

presented three computers and accessories and a photocopier

valued at 3,800 euros (40 million cedis) to the hospital at Mampong

on Wednesday.

Dr Justus Schultess, 61, and his daughter, Franciska Schultess, bought the items from money they had raised from friends in

Germany to assist the hospital.

Dr Ahiable said within the first half of the year, management and staff of the hospital have made steady progress in some areas that included the provision of two trolleys for the mortuary, installation of air-conditioners for the theatre of the maternity wing and

streamlining the financial administration of the hospital. He appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to post at least

one medical doctor to the hospital to assist him when the Cubans

leave in September. The Medical Superintendent thanked the donors for the support

and urged citizens of Mampong and surrounding areas at home and

abroad to emulate the shining example of the Germans. Dr Schultess, a Munich-based private medical practitioner, said

he was encouraged to assist the hospital when he first came to

Ghana last year to visit his daughter, a volunteer at the Mampong

Babies' Home.

The Mampong District hospital serves the Sekyere West,

Sekyere East, Afigya Sekyere and Ejura-Sekyedumasi districts in

the Ashanti Region and two others in the Brong-Ahafo Region. It is the only district hospital in the region with specialized wing for maternity cases.
