Malaria campaign programme launched at Bibiani

Bibiani (W/R), Sept 11, GNA- A malaria prevention programme by Kingsley Holgate's family that are part of Africa's great and most intrepid explorers and humanitarians, has been launched at Bibiani in the Western Region.

The programme dubbed "The Outside Edge," was being hosted by Central African Gold Limited based in Bibiani. It was expedition by the family, involving the circumnavigating the African continent on a clockwise direction through 33 countries in which thousands of life saving mosquito nets would be distributed to pregnant women and children.

Mr. Holgate, considered as a living legend in the fight against malaria in Africa, said statistics indicated that every minute of every night two babies died from the bite of the anopheles mosquito. He called on individuals and organisations to join the fight against malaria and said the Family had travelled over 16,000 kilometres in three vehicles from South Africa to Ghana.

Mr. Greg Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Central African Gold Limited, said the company's own anti-malaria campaign was launched in May 2006 and over 5,000 treated mosquito nets were given to pregnant women and children in the Bamako area in Mali. 12 Sept 07
