MPs donate health items, equipment to Sandema Hospital

Sandema, (UE), Aug 11, GNA- Two Members of Parliament (MPs), at the weekend donated hospital items and equipment worth 1,000 Ghana Cedis to the Sandema Hospital in the Upper East Region. They were Mrs. Agnes Chigabatia, Deputy Upper East Regional Minister and MP for Builsa North, and Mr. Roger Abolimbisa, MP for Builsa South. The items included hospital beds, mattresses, wheel chairs, bath benches, bed tables, toilet chairs, sets of computers and their accessories and laboratory equipment. Presenting the items to the hospital authorities, the two MPs said they contacted Mr. Samuel Ansobah, working with a Denmark non-governmental organization (NGO), to acquire the items for the health institution.

The MPs, whose constituencies fall within the Builsa District, said they used part of their MP Common Fund to pay expenses of clearing the items from the harbour. They said even though they belonged to different political parties, they considered the welfare of the people as paramount and pledged to work together towards the development of the district. They and appealed to the hospital administration to maintain the items and equipment to prolong their life span. Dr Anthony Aleka, the District Director of Health Services and the Medical Superintendent in charge of the hospital, received the items. He commended the MPs for their assistance and said that would complement government efforts in providing items to ensure quality healthcare to the people in the district. Dr Aleka appealed to other individuals and organisations to support the MPs. 11 Aug 08
