Lachifarma labs present malaria drugs to KATH

Kumasi, July 23, GNA - The management of A-One Trust Company, a pharmaceutical company on behalf of Lachifarma Laboratories, a sister company based in Italy on Wednesday presented 33,000 Euros worth of Malaria drugs to management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

The more than 100 cartons of Artemal Complex, anti-Malarial drug could cater for more than 23,000 patients and five cartons would be given to KATH Polyclinic Directorate for clinical trial.

Ohenenana Kwasi B. Freduah, Managing Director of A-One Trust Company, producers of Medical Tooth paste, Skin Light products and A-One rubber products presenting the drugs, said it was part of the company's social responsibilities towards the hospital to achieve excellence in heath care delivery.

He said being the African representative of the Italian company, it was ideal to introduce the drug that had been approved by World Health Organisation (WHO) as one of the best globally.

Ohenenana Freduah, who is also an Advisor for Lachifarma Laboratories said the drug used by adults had proven very effective in East African countries including Congo, Angola, Uganda and Cote d'Ivoire, and Artemal Comb (anti-malaria drug for children) would be introduced soon.

He said the company had in addition, contributed to the KATH Endowment Fund since 2004 and urged other companies and philanthropists to contribute their quota for the hospital's development. Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Chief Executive Officer of KATH receiving the drugs expressed appreciation to the company for the gesture that would assist patients who could not afford to purchase malaria drugs. He appealed to residents in Kumasi and Ashanti Region to respond to the campaign to raise funds to support the hospital during launching soon.

Dr Nsiah-Asare said about two million Ghana cedis would be needed to complement government's efforts for an effective and efficient health care delivery at the hospital.
