Labone LEO Club presents gifts to Children’s Hospital

The Labone LEO Club of Lions, an international youth club, on Saturday presented Valentine gifts to the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital in Accra to show love to the children on St. Valentine's Day.

Among the gifts were boxes of chocolates, drinks, biscuits, mineral water, soap, tooth pastes and brushes, toilet rolls and mosquito nets.

The Labone LEO Club donated the items in collaboration with the Legon Club of Lions, Accra City Club of Lions, Accra Golden Lion’s Club, and the Jubilee Lions’ Club.

Mr Bright Sena Tse, President of the Club, said in an interview with Ghana News Agency that the club decided to spend their Valentine’s Day with the sick and vulnerable children on admission at the hospital in fulfilment of its humanitarian services.

He said the club had been donating to the Children’s Hospital every February since 2008 to meet some of the needs of the hospital and its patients.

Mr Tse said the Labone LEO Club of Lions was one of the 45000 clubs globally of the Lions Club International established in 1917 and known as the world’s largest humanitarian service club with nearly 1.35 million members in 206 countries.

He said the club indulged in monthly humanitarian services such as creating awareness on malaria and cholera, diabetes and HIV screening, donations and clean up exercises at orphanages, hospitals, and aged homes.

“However, the activity of this month was designed with patients at the Children’s Hospital at heart since it is a month of love,” he said.

Madam Francisca Sefakor Kumahor, Administrator of the Hospital, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the club for the gesture.

“I am overwhelmed for their kindness because it’s a young group with very young members and they chose no other hospital to show their love but Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital,” she said.

She urged the club and governmental and non-governmental organisations to support the hospital with bleaches, antiseptics, and hand towels.
