Koforidua Hospital computerizes card retrieval system

Koforidua, Feb. 12, GNA - The Koforidua Regional Hospital is to introduce a computerised coding system, which would enable the staff to locate the record cards or files of all patients of the hospital within minutes.

The measure is to help reduce the delay at the Records Department, during the search for patient's cards anytime they visit the hospital. This was disclosed by the Director of the Hospital, Dr Daniel Asare, a= t a durbar organized for the workers of the hospital on Friday. He said once the cards are coded and keyed into the computer, it would be possible for the computer to immediately locate the shed and room where the card had been filed for easy retrieval.

Dr Asare said this would also help prevent the issuance of new cards whenever a patient's card is misplaced, which created a situation where s= ome patients had more than one record card.

He appealed to all those keeping their hospital record cards outside the records department of the hospital to return them. He said after the codification, any card that did not bear the code would be rejected at the consulting room and the patient would have to bear the cost of the codification at a cost GHC10.
