The Wound Care Centre at the Keta Municipal Hospital in the Volta Region, has conducted a successful skin grafting operation on a patient, who had been suffering from a post-traumatic ulcer wound.
The patient, Matsiador Jerome, a 24-year-old former student of Akatsi Senior High Technical School, had been admitted to the hospital on Friday, January 24, 2025, after getting injured while playing football in late December 2024.
Matsiador, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the injury had caused his right leg to swell, and despite spending over GH₵10,000, he had not seen any significant improvement in his condition after visiting several places and health centres seeking for a solution before being admitted to the Keta Municipal Hospital.
“Let me use this opportunity to commend all health workers at the hospital for the care I received, and l am grateful for the successful skin graft and the attention l received from the medical team,” he said.
He said the successful exercise was a testament to the quality healthcare services being provided at the Keta Municipal Hospital and the Wound Care Centre demonstrated its capability to handle complex cases and the expertise exhibited by the medical team and dedication have been instrumental in saving lives.
He commended the staff of the Wound Care Centre, led by Dr. Karikari Bonsu, who successfully conducted a skin graft on his body on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, and had since been discharged after receiving proper successful care and treatment.
Dr. Bonsu, the Medical Superintendent and Surgical Specialist, told the GNA that the medical team has identified and diagnosed that the wound suffered by the victims on the right leg was infected by a post-traumatic ulcer and needed urgent attention.
He said immediate and quicker attention by the medical team has saved the patient from being amputated and the testimony was a powerful endorsement of the hospital’s services that highlighted the importance of seeking medical attention from qualified professionals and the impact that quality healthcare could have on public.
Dr. Bonsu said the commitment by the staff of the hospital to provide quality healthcare services was evident in the successful surgery and the medical team has also shown a willingness to go the extra mile to ensure that patients receive the best possible care they need.
He further commended Mr. Mawuko Dzikunu, the Executive Chairman of Glory Oil company Limited, who solely founded the state-of-art wound care facility at the hospital to help alleviate the challenges faced by wound patients.
He stated that the successful skin graft and the wound cure would have a positive impact on the communities which would demonstrate their capability to handle complex case to boost confidence in their services to encourage more people to seek medical attention when needed.
Dr. Bonsu also applauded nurses and midwives led by Dr. Martha Ampadu, the Obstetrician Gynaecologist at the MTN Ghana’s Maternity and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit complex for a successful one year of no maternal mortality from July 2024 to July 2025.
