Inadequate facilities hamper health delivery in Atwima-Nwabiagya

Nkawie (Ash), Jan 29, GNA - Lack of certain basic facilities such as an ambulance, residential accommodation for staff and inadequate staff are militating against the effective and efficient health delivery in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district.

Miss Beatrice Appah, the District Director of Health Services, announced this at an annual health performance review meeting at Nkawie. The meeting was to review the achievements, share successes, note problems and discuss recommendations to solve the problems for improvement in health delivery in the district. She said notwithstanding these challenges, the few dedicated staff worked tirelessly with maximum collaboration to improve healthcare in the area.

Miss Appah announced that the district recorded 112 cases of Buruli Ulcer which was endemic in the area and expressed gratitude to ANESVAD Partners, an NGO-based in Spain for assisting in the construction of a theatre complex building at the Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital for the management of buruli ulcer cases. She called on Queenmothers in the district to support reproductive health services by registering pregnant women in their communities, follow them up till they deliver and continue to support them to embrace family planning to help space their births and safeguard their health. Mr Eric Kwasi Obeng, an official of the district health directorate, commended Community Growth Promoters and Community-Based surveillance Volunteers for the immense role they had played in health delivery in the district.
