Ho Rotary Club gives to Margret Marquart Hospital

The Rotary Club of Ho has presented a mobile slit lamp to the ophthalmology unit of the Margret Marquart Catholic Hospital at Kpando.

They also promised to donate a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) to the eye clinic in January to enhance its operations.

A slit lamp is an instrument consisting of a high-intensity light source that can be focused to shine a thin sheet of light into the eye. It is used in conjunction with a bio-microscope in detecting eye problems.

Madam Susan Kudjoe, Ho Rotary Club President, who presented the equipment worth 5,000 Euros, said the gesture was to make the Unit very effective to serve its ever increasing number of clients.

Dr. David Kupitz, in charge of the eye clinic said the Unit attends to about 700 cases in a month.

He said the cases were mostly related to cataract and glaucoma and lamented that patients always reported eye problems when the cases were at advance stages.

Dr. Kupitz said the mobile slit lamp would help the Unit to visit communities for eye screening outreaches.

The Hospital authorities expressed gratitude to Ho Rotary Club and gave the assurance that the equipment would be put to good use.
