Health indicators are positive in Upper West Region - Director

Wa, March 29, GNA - Most health indicators in the Upper West Region are moving in the positive direction, Dr. Jacob Abebrese, Medical Doctor in charge of the Wa Regional Hospital has said. He said the successes were accounted for at different areas, especially in the areas of providing services to patients, client relationship and contributing to improving the lives of the people. He urged health workers in the region to put in their best in the coming years to improve service delivery. Dr. Abebrese was addressing health workers at the end of year get-together in Wa on Friday to honour some retired workers who contributed to the performance of the hospital during their working periods.

He assured the workers that the regional health directorate was prepared to listen to them and to learn from them so that together, they could work to improve the preventive aspects of diseases and public health in the communities. Mr. Joseph Bolibie, Wa East District Director of Health Service, called for the strengthening of the public health unit by attracting young doctors to the region.

He also called for the strengthening of the health information systems to keep accurate data for hospital operations. The Upper West Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Robert Ayalingo, commended health workers, especially the staff of the Wa Regional Hospital, for refusing to go on strike when doctors and nurses in other parts of the country embarked on a nationwide strike. The 10 former employees of the hospital who were honoured took away a fridge and some televisions as their prize. 29 March 08
