Several residents of Dunkwa-on-Offin, in the Upper Denkyira East district of the Central Region, have been displaced following a heavy downpour that occurred on Sunday July 2.

Accra News’ Reuben Vorsah reported that several properties including buildings, farms, and valuables have been destroyed.

He also reported that the Dunkwa Municipal Hospital has been affected, resulting in health workers transferring patients to other buildings to be treated.

Some of the affected victims who spoke to the reporter appealed to the government to come to their aid.

Benjamin Agyekum, the coordinator for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), revealed that over 700 residents had been affected

“This is the worst flood we have had since 2009,” he said.

He added: “The municipal assembly has identified some locations where the affected residents are being transported. Currently in the district we don’t have enough materials and so we are awaiting resources from the national office.”
