An indigenous Company, First Sky Group, has come to the aid of patients at the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital by promising to foot their kidney transplant charges from September 2018

This initiative serves as an exit plan by the group, which has instituted a Kidney Transplant Scheme to support patients with kidney diseases to undergo renal dialysis at Korle Bu.

The Chairman of the First Sky Group, Mr Eric Seddy Kutortse and his team on Monday embarked on a familiarization tour of the Renal Unit at Korle Bu to assess how the scheme had impacted on patients after its establishment 18 months ago.

According to Mr. Kutortse, "the organization’s decision to adopt the unit, came after weighing the lasting impact on the life of a beneficiary of the company’s charity, who we supported with 30 percent of the organization’s net profit, within a few months of making full payments for this gentleman, he bounced back to life and today he is studying at the University of Ghana” adding that, “following up on him, we came across several others with the same problem, so we decided to take up a mantle and adopt the unit.”

Receiving the team on behalf of the Renal Units, Dr. Vincent Boima, Head of Renal Dialysis Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, said, the scheme initiated by the First Sky Group has helped a lot of patients because before the scheme most of them could not afford the dialysis, since they had to pay GHC260 per dialysis, aside from ancillary medication which came with its own cost adding that "but for the scheme, patients who have to be on dialysis twice or thrice a week just to have paid between GHC500 and GHC800 per week."

Mr. Seddy Kutortse assured Ghanaians that, the company would do a situational assessment of the state of affairs at the Renal Unit on a quarterly basis, in order to provide the required funding.

Philanthropic Gestures

Whilst many would have used their wealth for acquiring luxuries for themselves and immediate families, the First Sky group has impacted Ghanaian lives, largely making lives brighter for the needy and less privileged persons in society.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the First Sky Group has a policy which is more sympathetic toward supporting social and religious courses under which it has assisted many individuals and organizations.

These range from construction of 50-seater ultra-modern and well-equipped Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centers; offering full scholarship to over 50 Senior High School (SHS) students annually, from his alma mater; paying in full, hospital bills for all patients at the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital - by making treatment of the kidney diseases free of charge at the facility, among others.

The First Sky Group also recently donated five brand new Toyota Land Cruisers and a Pick-up Truck to the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, for its missionary works to assist spread the Gospel.

The company led by the Chairman, Mr. Eric Seddy Kutortse presented 15 set of musical instruments to churches across the country and handed over new sixty (60) church buildings with a seating capacity of 450-650 worshippers, to the Assemblies of God Church, 30 each to the Eastern and Volta Regions.

The company has also provided several decent houses for retired Ministers of the gospel. The latest donation done by the group was a donation of a cheque of GH¢1 million towards the construction of the National Cathedral.

In his remarks, Mr.Eric Seddy Kutortse said,“We have decided to collaborate with Korle Bu to establish a Kidney Transplanting Unit at the hospital. If that is done, we can have patients who have donors to be transplanted, so that they will be free from the dialysis.
