Expand facilities at the KNUST - SMS – Prof Yeboah

Professor Francis Agyemang Yeboah, Vice Dean of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)-School of Medical Sciences (SMS), has urged the government to take steps to expand its academic facilities to substantially increase students’ intake.

He said every effort must be made to tackle the situation where many otherwise qualified students continued to be denied admission into the school because of the lack of space and logistics.

Prof Yeboah was performing the ceremony to inaugurate the refurbished Study Room at the Clinical Students Hostel at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

This was funded at the cost GHC50,000.00 by the alumni of the school - “2005 Dream Class”.

The Vice Dean said it was in the nation’s interest to train more doctors to improve the quality of health of the population.

He applauded the old students for the support and said it was refreshing to see them “give back to the school” - assisting to create the right conditions for students to study.

He said it was a call to action - an invitation to all products of the KNUST-SMS to contribute their quota to make things better.

Dr. Eric Asante-Darko, Coordinator of the Group, pledged further aid to their alma-mater, saying they would continue to make individual financial contributions to help meet some of its felt needs for effective academic work

The President of the Medical Students Association, Mr. Gideon Appiah Boadu said they were grateful for the gesture and promised to do everything to keep it in good shape.
