Effia-Nkwanta Casualty cries for help

Sekondi, Jan 12, GNA - The Causality and Emergency Centre of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital is small and can no more contain the increasing number of accident victims and other emergency cases. Dr Paul Ntodi, the Western Regional Medical Director, told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday that the centre was also too small and is congested.

"The facility is in fact over stretched," he said and added that th= e whole hospital needed attention in terms of infrastructure. This will enable it to function properly as a regional hospital particularly with the emergence of oil in the region and its resultant influx of people.

Dr Ntodi said though there had been assurances from corporate entities to support the hospital they are yet to fulfil such promises. He said 93Tullow Ghana Oil has for instance promised to renovate the facility and we are still hoping that they will come to our aid". Dr Ntodi therefore called on the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service and other benevolent institutions to assist the hospital.
