Dormaa Health Insurance scheme enlists 56.5% of population

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Oct. 26, GNA - The Dormaa district health insurance scheme registered 84,799 subscribers out of the district's population of 150,000 as of August 2007, its managers said on Friday. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Martin Amponsah, Manager of the scheme, commended the steadfastness and compliance of the scheme's 24 service providers.

Mr. Amponsah held that the success of the scheme in the district was due to efficiency in administration, especially the sustained public education among the people.

He said as of July 31, this year, the scheme had settled all financial obligations and still had more that three billion cedis in its coffers.

Mr Amponsah lauded the efforts and support of the government, board of governors, traditional authorities, religious bodies and opinion leaders in the district.

"One institution that must be placed on the scheme's record is Dormaa District Assembly, which has continued to provide our needs", he added.

He said considering the pivotal role that good health played in society's endeavour to advance, the need for every citizen in the district to join the scheme could not be overemphasized. Mr. Amponsah appealed to the youth to register and disabuse their minds that the scheme was designed for children and the aged. He said discussions were ongoing to allow farmers in the district to pay their premium during the harvest period.
