Olam Food Ingredients Ghana Limited (ofi) has refurbished and donated medical equipment to the Donkro Nkwanta Health Facility in the Bono East Region.
The gesture forms part of Ofi’s Healthy Living (OHL) campaign, an ongoing health and wellness initiative organised by ofi to improve the health of employees, farmers, and farming communities within its supply chain.
A statement issued in Accra said the initiative led by its cashew business, ofi had supplied and donated essential medical equipment to the Donkro Nkwanta Health Facility in the Nkoranza South Municipal District of the Bono East Region.
It said the company aimed to support the health needs of farmers, who remain key stakeholders.
“Donkro Nkwanta Health Facility was chosen because it serves as the primary healthcare centre for several surrounding communities, including Akropong, Salamkrom, Akuma, and Kyeradeso,” it added.
The statement said recognising that residents in these areas rely on the facility for health care, ofi decided to renovate and equip the hospital to better support the wider community. Donated items included a 2-crank hospital bed, an oxygen concentrator, an 18-litre autoclave, and an 18-litre water bath, all of which will strengthen operations in the laboratory and maternity ward.
It said in addition, ofi repaired faulty electrical wiring and repainted both units to improve the overall environment for patients and staff. Raphael Yussif Amankwa, the General Manager for ofi’s Cashew Business, noted the importance of targeted interventions in rural healthcare.
“The lack of adequate healthcare infrastructure contributes to lower life expectancy in many farming communities,” he said.
He said through the ofi Healthy Living Campaign, they remained committed to supporting the health and safety of farmers and their families. The General Manager said beyond the equipment donation, “we have refurbished the laboratory and maternity ward to ensure the facility delivers dignified and reliable care.”
He encouraged health workers and residents to ensure proper maintenance of the equipment for long-term use. Asana Lenseni, a Representative receiving the items on behalf of the Municipal Health Directorate, expressed gratitude, saying the support would benefit not only Donkro Nkwanta but also the surrounding communities that rely on the facility for medical services.
Adukwei Michael, Chairman of the Health Facility Committee thanked ofi for what he described as a “remarkable and timely intervention.” Adukwei, who also represented Nana Owusu-Akyeam Brempong II, Chief of Donkro Nkwanta reaffirmed the community’s commitment to supporting ofi’s operations, noting that although other cashew businesses operate in the area, ofi remains the first to contribute meaningfully to community development.
Eric Asare Botwe, the Country Head of ofi’s Operations in Ghana emphasised the Company’s commitment to farmer well-being. He said “Farmers are essential stakeholders in our supply chain, and their well-being sits at the heart of our sustainability commitment.”
He said by supporting healthcare in farming communities, they were helping build resilient, thriving environments where families can live and work with dignity.
