Churches urged to register aged members in NHIS

Mankranso (Ash), Sept 12, GNA - A pastor has appealed to churches to assist their aged members with funds to enable them to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Pastor Daasebre Nsiah-Appiah, Mankranso District Pastor of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church, said since those between ages 60 and 69 did not fall within the category of people enjoying free medical care of the scheme, it was expedient that the church took up the responsibility to assist that group.

He was addressing about 40 elders and departmental leaders drawn from 20 branches of the church in the district at a general meeting held at Mankranso on Monday.

Pastor Nsiah-Appiah said churches could afford the maximum NHIS registration fee of 120,000 cedis since what they spent on individual members as funerals and weddings were higher.
