Church donates blood to KATH blood bank

Kumasi, June 16, GNA- More than 90 members of the Grace Baptist Church at Amakom in Kumasi at the weekend donated a quantity of blood to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) blood bank. The exercise which took place at the Church's premises was preceded by health checks and screening of the donors by personnel of KATH to ensure their physical fitness and that blood donated was safe. The donation formed part of a month-long celebration of the Church's 40th anniversary.

Reverend Ralph Obeng, leader of the organizing team and Principal Pharmacist of KATH told Ghana News Agency (GNA) that voluntary blood donation had no side effects and that the body had a way of replenishing blood lost after a short time. He encouraged Christians to be positive-minded towards such exercise since they were obliged to save lives like Jesus Christ did for humanity.

Miss Elizabeth Fatima, Midwifery Officer of the Blood Bank clinic, commended the donors for the gesture saying it was a demonstration of the Christian faith since Christianity was not about selfishness but reaching out to others. She urged members of other religious organisations to donate blood to hospitals adding that voluntary blood donors enjoyed free counseling and had easy access to health care after being issued with certificate of recognition. 16 June 08
