Centre for Legacy honours a retired Midwife

A Sunyani-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Centre for Legacy Promotion (CeLP), has honoured a Chiraa-based retired Midwife, Madam Rosebud Gaisie for her long service to humanity.

Madam Gaisie, 84, has operated the ‘Mercy Moroba Maternity Home’, a private midwifery facility at Chiraa in the Sunyani West District of Brong-Ahafo Region since September 1967.

The retired midwife, an indigene of Kyerekrom, near Fumesua in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti Region first worked in Brong-Ahafo at the Bechem Government Hospital from 1956 to September 1967 when she voluntarily resigned and went into private practice.

She also worked at the Effiduase, Ashanti Government Health Centre for five years after completing midwifery training in 1951.

Speaking during the occasion at Chiraa, Mr Justice Samuel Adjei, Deputy Regional Minister commended the Management of CeLP for recognising and honouring Madam Gaisie whose professional and humanitarian services benefited not only the area but Ghana in general.

Mr Adjei said: “I am personally happy and think other discerning Ghanaians would share the same view with me that it is always better to honour the living than the dead.”

He expressed the hope that the honour done to Madam Gaisie would serve as encouragement not only to workers of the Ghana Health Service but government employees at large to work harder for the development of the country.

Nana Bofotia Boa-Amponsem, Krontihene of Sunyani Traditional Area and Chief Executive Officer of CelP said the Organisation was established two years ago.

He explained that its objective is to recognise personalities for their meritorious services to the society and then list them in a ‘Legacy Book of Records’ like the Guinness Book of Records.

As part of the programme, Mr Ignatious Baffour-Awuah, Member of Parliament for Sunyani West on behalf of CeLP launched “The Rosebud Gaisie Foundation”, to raise funds to support t Girls' science education in Chiraa and its surrounding communities.

Barima Afari Minta II, Chief of Chiraa said the emergence of Legacy Book of Records in Brong-Ahafo should spur on the people to do their best to promote the Region and themselves in all spheres of life.
