Police at Tepa demand sitting magistrate at Mankranso

Mankranso (Ash), March 16, GNA - The police at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District of Ashanti have made a passionate appeal to the Chief Justice to post a new magistrate to man the Tepa Magistrate's Court.

Chief Inspector Prosper Yao Aheto, a prosecutor of the Tepa Police Station, who made the appeal in an interview with the GNA at Mankranso, said the absence of a sitting magistrate at Tepa was hampering the smooth dispensation of justice in the District. He said the Tepa police, who had no vehicles, had had to travel long distances to Mankranso and Kenyasi to prosecute criminal cases. Chief Inspector Aheto said the situation posed greater risk to the prosecutors, who sometimes had to walk long distances with the suspects to attend court.

He said the absence of a sitting magistrate had also contributed to the piling up of cases and called on the Chief Justice to act with despatch to save the situation.
