Bongo hospital records zero maternal death in 2015

With only a few days to end the year, the Bongo District has not recorded any maternal deaths this year, 2015, just as it was in 2013.

However the hospital recorded two maternal deaths in 2014 and five each in 2011 and 2012.

Dr William Gudu, Bongo District Director of Health Services, said the Hospital was not relenting in its efforts to bring improved health services to all and added that improvement in maternal health indicators was a result of hard work by the health team.

Neo-natal deaths, according to him, reduced from nine in 2011 to eight in 2012. The year 2013 recorded 13, with five in 2014, and four in 2015.

Dr Gudu made this known at a ceremony to commission a mechanized borehole with an over-head tank for the Bongo Health Centre at a cost of GH¢ 52,300 and a 50 bed capacity female ward at GH¢ 350,000.00 for the hospital, made possible by some philanthropists, friends and sons of the District.

The bore hole was sponsored by Mr Fred Balasu, Managing Director of FREDMEF Ventures, a company specialized in substation, transmission line construction, building and civil engineering works.

Dr Gudu noted that skilled deliveries in the District were increasing steadily from 611 in the year 2011 to 862 in 2012, and 909 in 2013. It further increased to 1,246 in 2014 and 1,334 in 2015.

The District Medical Superintendent said Malaria positive cases also reduced, with the facility recording 4,811 in 2011, 4504 in 2012, 3,554 in 2013, and 1,594 in 2014.

The Hospital according to him lacked a laundry machine, ambulance, a Neo natal intensive care unit (NICU) and an emergency ward.

He said even though the Hospital had a transformer to ensure power stability, the equipment could no longer power the Hospital as a result of frequent power fluctuations.

He called on government and friends of the District to support the hospital to continue to render best services to the people.
