Blood shortage to hits Accra

According to the Blood Bank, 300 pints of blood are needed to salvage the situation According to the Blood Bank, 300 pints of blood are needed to salvage the situation

A lot of people are likely to die every day in Accra due lack of blood at the National Blood bank.

This is because a lot of people have stopped doing blood to the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS).

Mr. Felix Apetey of the National Blood Service revealed this during a blood donation and health screening exercise by the Keepers House Chapel International at Madina in Accra.

He said they need about 300 units of blood but are able to get just 150 – a situation he described as worrying.

Mr. Apetey warned the situation could be worse if people don’t donate blood.

Head Pastor of the Keeper House Chapel, Rev. Francis Aubyn said they decided to donate blood to save the lives of others.

He indicated that, the aim of the project is to restock the blood bank and provide support for persons who require blood during this period.

Rev. Aubyn noted that, they were encouraged by the plight of the hospital to improve the stock levels at the blood bank.

The one-week celebration, dubbed: “Take-Off Convention 2017,’’ which is on the theme: “Mighty Loyal Favoured,” begins on Sunday, August 27 and ends on Sunday, September 3.

Some of the activities lined up for the celebration include free medical screening, donation to orphanages, soup kitchen, clean-up exercise and thanksgiving service.
