Assinman MHIS sign agreement with health institutions

Assin Foso, Aug 6, GNA - A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the administrators of the Assinman Mutual Health Insurance Scheme and 12 health institutions in the Assin North and South Districts for the take-off of the scheme.

The health institutions, the Akonfode, Nyankomase, Ahenkro, Manso, Jakai, Kruwa, Enyinabrem, Nsuta, Ongwa, Praso and Akropong health centres and the Foso Catholic Hospital are to provide services to the clients of the scheme.

Dr Nii Adjetey, Assin District Director of Health Service and Mr Derick Owusu Ambrose, Acting Chairman of the Scheme singed the agreement.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Owusu Ambrose, who is also the Pharmacist in charge of the Saltpond Hospital said out of the population of 217,000 in the two districts, 62,000 people had registered with the scheme.

He said the number included 730 people from 70 years and above, 40 indigents and 16,000 children below the age of 18 years. Mr Ambrose said 140 million cedis had so far been collected and commended the manager and staff of the scheme for their dedication. He said the administrators of the scheme had decided to make the contributors to have access to free medical services for those sitting on the fence to see the benefits.

Mr Owusu Ambrose explained that the take-off did not mean that the register had been closed and called on those who had not done so to have their names entered.

Dr Adjetey gave the assurance that the directorate would ensure that those who had not registered gained access to quality health care. He advised the clients to report malpractices or unsatisfactory health delivery to the outfit for redress.
