Asaam Health Centre takes delivery of ambulance

Asaam (Ash), March 8, GNA - The Asaam Health Centre in the Asante-Mampong Municipality, has received an ambulance valued at about GH¢18,000. A businessman and a native of the town, Mr Yaw Amponsah Marfo, dona= ted the ambulance to the Centre.

At a brief ceremony to hand over the keys of the specially-equipped vehi= cle to the management of the Health Centre at Asaam on Monday, Mr Marfo said the gesture was to complement government's efforts at making quality health c= are accessible to all, especially those in the deprived communities. He also pledged to provide computers, bed sheets and other equipment tha= t the Centre currently needed. The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Mampong, Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh= , who helped to renovate the Asaam Health Centre as well as the Benim Healt= h Centre at a total cost of GH¢9,000 from his share of the Health Insuran= ce Fund, dwelt much on the need to ensure proper maintenance. The Municipal Director of Health, Madam Rebecca Dokurugu, said lack of logistics and inadequate health personnel were making it difficult for th= e achievement of zero-percent maternal deaths in the area. She said there were 10 maternal deaths in the Municipality in 2008 and t= his reduced to three last year.

She commended Mr Marfo and the MP for the support given to health care delivery. Kofiase and Benim Health Centres would also receive an ambulance ea= ch. 8 March 10
