Yao Gomado, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akan Constituency, on Wednesday officially commenced the drilling of boreholes in all 40 schools under the School Feeding Programme in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region.
The initiative seeks to ensure that pupils and staff in the beneficiary schools have reliable access to safe and potable water for both drinking and cooking.
By addressing the long-standing challenge of water scarcity, the project will: Provide dependable access to potable water in schools, reduce the time pupils and caterers spend searching for water during instructional hours and improve the effectiveness of the School Feeding Programme while enhancing teaching and learning.
To kick-start the project, the first borehole has been successfully drilled at the Kadjebi Education Directorate, providing potable water to the entire District Education Office.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Gomado reaffirmed his commitment to promoting quality education through the provision of essential infrastructure and services.
“Access to water is a basic need. By providing boreholes in our schools, we are not only improving health and hygiene but also creating an environment where pupils can focus on learning rather than searching for water,” he emphasised.
The MP expressed appreciation to the District Education Directorate, school authorities, parents, and community members for their continuous support in advancing education in Kadjebi.
He also urged all stakeholders to collaborate in maintaining the facilities to ensure their sustainability for future generations.
The borehole project forms part of Gomado’s broader agenda to improve educational facilities and welfare services for children across the Kadjebi District.
