Accept family planning, adolescents urged

A forum to highlight the dangers of illegal abortion has been held at Adidwan in the Mampong Municipality, with a call to the people to accept family planning.

Madam Beatrice Asempa, a Midwife, said this was the way to prevent unwanted pregnancies and promote safe reproductive health.

The programme was jointly organized by IPAS-Ghana, Centre for the Development of People and the Ghana Health Service, as part of efforts at helping to achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG -5) – to reduce maternal deaths.

It brought together, chiefs, religious groups, trade associations, health workers and students.

Madam Asempa advised adolescent girls to avoid endangering their lives through the use of herbal concoctions and other dangerous methods to terminate unwanted pregnancies.

She said they should focus on pursuing academic careers and do away with sexual adventurism.

Nana Asenso Opoku-Mensah, chief of the town, reminded parents to live up to their responsibility to their children and spend quality time with them.

They need to do more to protect them from the negative influence of the social media and peer pressure.
