Research on effects of doctors strikes show less people die during the period of the strike.
The laws of nature take control and people survive. Remember most of the effective health interventions like vaccination for children does not depend on doctors.
For maternal health it is the 15% of women who will run into complications who need doctors. Even there except caesarean sections , the midwives handle the rest.
Medical assistants are the backbone of the subdistrict health system where over 80% of health delivery activities take place. Infact many of them are better than the high fallutin doctors roaming around.
These doctors can not operate, can't work in rural areas excepted galivanting in Accra litigating over conditions of service.
Ghanaians will soon adjust and it is the same hospitals where these doctors work which will lose revenue.
Moreover the greedy ones amongst them can't stay away for too long as the monthly salary has to be supplemented by monies from D&C.
We wait to see.
Let this be the mother of all strikes by sitting it out.
Mark my words after two weeks it would be work to rule then they will gradually crawl back to work with out a formal announcement ending the strike.

This GMA - Government situation has been years in the making. The Government is the employer. It knew of this potential situation but did nothing about it and now it has come to this.
Instead of making a cry for the vulnerable Ghanaian how about sticking up for labor when it has a concern that isn't addressed in a professional way by the employer. The GMA didn't wake up suddenly and decided to go on strike. Labor uses strike actions as a last resort which means Government wasn't listening or negotiating in a professional manner.
This is about Government and its sloppiness in handling matters that aren't politically expedient. You don't treat people like dirt when it's not in the public eye and then try to make these same people appear as evil when your sloppiness has been exposed.

Their proposal is not affordable...Fullstop! The government should revoke their passports and let see what they will do. Bear in mind no govt is legally obliged to issue passport to anyone. I wish the govt can rub raw pepper ... read full comment
