This writer is disingenuous The incumbency you talked about was rather one of the factors that affected the outcome of the elections. If the economic situation of 2021 to 24 were like 2017 to 2020 the whole thing would have been different. How can people so soon forget the devastating impact of covid and the Russian Ukraine war on the world economy. Internally those accusing Dr Bawumia of losing the elections were the same people who sabotaged his chances. First was Alan who has this feeling of entitlement with the illusion that he would be the automatic flagbearer. When that did not materialised he broke away just as he did 2007 but this time he founded his own party whose primary objective was scuttle the chances Dr Bawumia .Next was hon KennedyAgyapong Rather than breakaway from the party after losing the primaries he decided to stay but to make sure that sabotaged the party .He had thought that after losing the general elections Dr Bawumia would not stand again so that it would be a walk in the park for him Ken. In a nutshell while the harsh economic situation made Ghanaians lose faith with the government the internal saboteurs just put the icing on the cake

A thief who should never come close to the presidency seat. This is the guy who wanted to steal 4 hotels from SSNIT without any money. He is corrupt and crooked. He should declare where he got his money from?

This is overly simplified without considering the circumstances. Due to the effect of Russia and Ukraine war following the covid pandemic, almost all incumbent governments worldwide where elections were held suffered defeats. To the extend that President Trump with all his legal struggles won the US elections including the popular votes. In Canada for instance, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeu had to resign. In U.K for instance, the prime minister's position was changed three times and the ruling government is now in monority lead by a British with Nigerian background.
Instead of the presidential aspirants during the NPP primaries hammering these worldwide economy crisis, a candidate was asserting that NPP people are fools and corrupt, he has regretted joining NPP, the ministers are corrupt, etc. This aspirant went on to create an impression that the grassroot of the party were suffering whilst those with political appointments are enjoing. In a way this caused a voter apathy, leading to over 2M voters who decided not to vote. Also, Dr. Bawumia had more votes than all NPP MPs put together. The economic hardships, the debt exchange program, the messages we put accross during the presidential primary, inability to forcefully address the propaganda machinery of NDC lead to the loss. Any other candidate would have lost miserably. Some Ghanaians have now seen through NDC's propaganda and it will be suicadal to replace the most popular politician in NPP today in the person of Dr. Bawumia.
