GHANA HAS NO HISTORY
Nana was right. The independence movement did not start with Nkrumah. As an Engineering student in a polytechnic abroad, I was made to pick up courses in Outline History of Africa, World Civilizations and History of Technology, The history of Nok Culture, etc. In my history class, I read that independence movement actually started after the World War I. The African soldiers who fought alongside the British in trenches realised that the Whiteman is not next to God after all since they witnessed the whites dying miserably besides them and that wiped away the fear and respect accorded to them. Secondly, the humiliating defeat of the Brits by the Japanese in Singapore also raised questions about the superiority of the Great Britain. Other defiance activities like the Aba Women's movement and media warfare waged by veteran African politicians like Nnamdi Azikiwe, who was then domiciled in Accra, and JB Dankwa all contributed positively to the independence of Ghana and Africa as a whole. To isolate Nkrumah and bestow on him the sole achiever of Ghana's independence is very erroneous. I never attended any university but I think universities in Ghana are not teaching our youth well.

I am not an advocate fro free education. it is jut unsustainable and will lead to the deterioration of standards. A debate to arrive at a national consensus will be ideal.

I like free education but not as Akuffo Addo wants it. Those who choose to be in the boarding houses should be made to pay for their boarding and lodging throughout the country, including those at the three Northern regions. It is not fair when our friends from the three Northern regions who even come from very wealthy families attend boarding and lodging schools do not pay for their feeding but poorer people from the South had to pay. If they cannot afford, then they should attend Day Schools. It is plain and simple. Day and boarding students can be given one and two meals at subsidized fees. Admission fees should be eliminated. So should be electricity and water, and sports fees. Any other fees should be subsidized with the government paying one third of such fees.
People who get everything for free do not usually value it.

Every party wins elections on promises. If it is able to fulfill them, that is good.
Those in the past government who are totally against all aspects of free education by Akuffo Addo, where did their kids go to school? Ask Asiedu Nketia where his children attended University and where are they now.
You can insult Akuffo Addo all you want. That is how Ghana politics is like. He shall still be your president for the next for years.

My worry is how do we determine who goes to boarding house? I think boarders feeding should rather be paid by parents or reduced a bit and day students given a meal for the day
