What is the point creating separate authorities if you are going to cover the entire country?

Just create one - National development Authority (NDA) and rest your soul.

The aim of the SADA is to the bridge the colonial poverty gap between the south and the North. By that, it does not mean the rest of the country is not poor. By SADA, it means a targeted affirmative action to address a long standing problem.

Setting up other authorities to cover the entire country, well except Accra and Kumasi, will be to trivialise the historical denial of development in the Northern abjectly poor part of our dear country.
Till date, less than 20 % of the national development budget goes to the north making the north poorer and poorer.

A fair share of the national budget towards the north, correcting for historical denials of development alone will bridge the gap between the north and the south.

Northern people and politicians in particular must insists that the north gets its fair share of the national cake.

Only the crumbs is good for the north; that is what has been happening over the last 60 years of independence.

MiBDA, CoDA and NoDA will score political points for the NPP but it will also grossly trivialise the development gap between the south and the poor and deprived north.

I saw a picture of Akufo Addo's convoy wading through a river called a road in the Northern region. There was a suggestion that it is perhaps caused by the NDC government. Far from it. That bad road has existed since independence. It is a clear illustration of what is possible in the north due to the discriminatory allocation of national resources much to the deprivation of the three northern regions.

Everything arrives in the three northern region a decade or so after the south have had it - pipe borne water, electricity, radio, tv, internet, mobile phone coverage, sports stadia, universities, international airports (just one in tamale 60 after independence), rail ways (yet to be built), factories (none in the northern regions as I type) etc. It is disgraceful for all presidents. Rawlings did his bit against silly arguments even some from northern politicians. Thanks to Rawlings, the north has one university, he brought Akosombo to the north through the rural electrification project much to the annoyance of his own party colleagues.

Yet again, the north as usual is being discriminated against. The government has converted our polytechnics into technical universities and guess what? The Northern polytechnics in Wa and Bolga have been excluded. Instead, regions where we already have universities have had their polytechnics converted to technical universities. Yet again, our northern politicians have not seen the unfairness in such blatant discrimination against the north where tertiary technical education especially in agriculture is needed most.

And these were all orchestrated by deliberate government policy to discriminate against the north. Therein lies the reason why the north is poor. Authorities will not solve the wealth gap if successive government continue to deprive the north of its share of the national cake.
